Lead Developer, Reality Labs AU

Want to help us build the future of work – using your experience building brilliant multiplayer games? Then keep reading…

At Enablo, we are on a mission to digitise the world of work and enable new work experiences that are accessible to everyone, anywhere. Through our existing partnerships with Workplace from Meta, Google Workspace and Asana, we’ve already helped hundreds of organisations transform their culture and the way they work.

But now, we’re setting out to do something a little different.

We’re taking all of our experience and trusted relationships and pouring them into a new product that will help bring the world’s biggest workplaces into the Metaverse. So we’re looking for an experienced game development leader that can help!

This key role will report directly to the Head of Reality Labs and see you build a talented dev team from the ground up. If you’re excited by the thought of creating something new within an exceptional business and working on exciting new technologies as they’re released, then you will love this job!

What would help seal the deal though, is your shared passion for creating the ultimate employee experience of the future, and believing in Enablo’s potential to transform our clients through connection, communication and collaboration.

The Work

Okay, this will be fun! As we said before, this team will be creating new workplace experiences that have more in common with the latest games than they do with any spreadsheet or video conference platform. Which is why we’re on the lookout for someone with leadership experience in that area. We’ll also be developing for the future, so being excited to build towards an unknown destination and new device categories would be a big plus. Your first few months here could look something like this:

  • Work alongside the Head of Reality Labs to plan and begin development on a new workplace-focused product area
  • Starting development on a playable prototype and plan for its trial deployment
  • Help hire incredible, talented staff to successfully grow the team
  • Implement and maintain effective and safe development systems and processes
  • Guide the wider team’s strategy with your contacts and knowledge of the industry
  • Stay across the latest capabilities of Unreal Engine and other relevant development tools
  • Test and trial the capabilities and limitations of new relevant tech devices
  • Work closely and collaboratively alongside key staff within technology partners like Meta and Unreal Engine
  • Lead and mentor the development side of Enablo’s Reality Lab team into the future
  • Operate strictly under our ISMS framework for ISO27001 compliance

The Skills

Here are some of the skills and abilities we imagine you might come to us with – but there are a lot of different ways to end up at the same place, so please let us know how your specific skills and experiences might fit!

  • Past experience in a development leadership role
  • Thorough, hands-on and up to date knowledge of a major gaming engine, preferably UE
  • Experience building and deploying multiplayer gaming experiences, from earliest planning stages to scaling and supporting a growing number of users
  • Understanding of and experience deploying to different target platforms and principles of cross-platform support
  • Success implementing live interaction features like voice chat
  • Comfortable working with and understanding a wide range of emerging technologies
  • Experience developing for AR and VR environments and hardware, especially Oculus/Meta Quest. Working with motion and facial capture data is a bonus.
  • Experience implementing and maintaining version control
  • Setting and maintaining standards for documentation and QA
  • Enthusiasm to explore new and exciting opportunities in immersive computing
  • Good communication skills – whether identifying issues or highlighting solutions – and a genuine interest in and care for your team

A note from the Hiring Manager

Hi Nathan here, Head of Reality Labs. I’m so excited to put the call out for this role, as it will be the person I work with most closely to build this new part of the Enablo business. It will blend the autonomy and creativity of a startup, whilst having the benefits of being part of an existing team with great culture, deep partner relationships with major tech companies and a successful sales, delivery and marketing arm ready to support. I’m here because I believe these technologies have the power to help all employees feel connected and engaged at work – and that this impact will only grow as new devices change how we experience work entirely. If you feel the same, I’d love to hear from you no matter where in the world you currently are. Come and have a big hand in designing how we can all work better in the future.

Enabler Life

We are HQ’d in Brisbane, Australia and our team of exceptional talents are distributed remotely across Australia, New Zealand and USA.

If, like us, you get your kicks from helping people feel and perform their best at work, that might be enough. But, there are a few other things that make working at Enablo so great.

We believe in the health and wellness of our Enablers and with that, we provide access to a life coach that can help navigate through challenges, both personal and professional. Each team member has an allotted amount of time per month that can be spent exploring how we can better manage both homelife and our careers.

We not only partner with Meta, Asana and Google, but we also kit you out with a slick new MacBook Pro, will provide you with an allowance to cover your phone and internet bills, paid parental leave (for mums AND dads) and try to get you together with your team as long as COVID permits (globally)!

We also practise what we preach and use our tools day-in, day-out so you’ll feel connected and like you actually know your peers, even when you may not have met them in real life. This happens through fun intro videos, embracing achievements, milestones and birthdays on our social groups, peer to peer recognition on Workplace and more.

But we don’t stop there, we don’t rave about diversity because we do this naturally – we are an inclusive (even pet-friendly) environment, who truly enjoy shared values, a culture of playfulness but with serious intent and we absolutely thrive when we collaborate! Just ask our Customers!

Interested? Then get in touch and apply now, by sending us your resume to [email protected]. Be sure to tell us a bit about yourself, we want to get to know you. We should also let you know, any successful Enablers who join our team are required to undergo a National Police and Background Check and have ongoing full rights to work and reside in the country of employment – which in this case, is Australia.

No agencies thanks, we’ve got this one covered!
