The world is beginning to contemplate, perhaps for the first time, large scale remote working as a strategy against global pandemics. As COVID-19 continues to threaten worldwide health, there are a handful of remote working platforms out there to assist with this new strategy. The question we all face is, which platform helps solve the problem whilst also retaining (and amplifying) company culture?
As humans, 80 percent of why we come to work, is to do a job, and get paid for that job. The extra 20 percent is about networking, building friendships, building relationships and expressing our social needs. Whether that’s catching up for your morning coffee, discussing internal politics, or showing countless photos of your pets around the lunchroom table, it all creates a sense of community.
Social connection is a healthy and natural behavior and builds a culture within workplaces. Better connection encourages teamwork, maintains goals and drives community success within the workplace. The importance of this should not be overlooked.
However, when over 31 of the largest worldwide companies are telling their employees to work remotely due to the COVID-19 outbreak…
How can employees connect remotely?
… And how will culture continue to flourish when employees are secluded to their own homes.
Enablo has been a remote working organization from day one, this means our company culture already thrives in this world. Workplace from Meta works inside our organization, connecting teams across multiple continents and locations. Many teams have never met each other face to face, yet we’re proud to say that Enablo as a team, is so connected, and close knit.
For most organizations, remote working is relatively new. With pressures from a health outbreak such as COVID-19, businesses are being forced to consider all of their options.
Enablo operates entirely within Workplace from Meta. We use the platform as our primary communication, collaboration and culture platform.
Our founders and employees have spent over a decade deeply immersed in the world of collaboration at work, using (and selling!) platforms such as G-Suite, Slack, Teams and Yammer. Each of these platforms have strengths in their own right and address unique needs of companies. We have yet to see any of these balance the much-needed blend of working productivity AND driving company culture.
This cultural connection also extends out to our clients. These range from:
- Banks
- Retailers
- Police forces
- Airlines
- Government agencies;
- And even a zoo
It always amazes me to see our collaboration with our clients evolve from the typical client/consultant relationship to truly operating as one team. This happens because, amongst the great work that we do together, we share live videos of our teams celebrating major project milestones, we often respond with GIF’s and there’s the occasional cute dog photo shared.
These things might sound like they are a time-drain, or somewhat unprofessional – but they all help drive our culture.
At a time like this, when there is alot of uncertainty in the world, feeling like you belong and that you’re safe and looked after, is the most important thing for workers.
We are finding many clients in fact see an increase in productivity within Workplace, because despite COVID-19 or any other world-wide restrictions, they are still able to continue their business as usual.
Our clients are using the platform to communicate with all employees on COVID-19 to:
- Broadcasting health recommendations, like washing hands and other healthy habits, during this time
- Update team members of any concerns to at risk employees
- Broadcast event/conference cancellations due to affected areas; and
- Communicate working-from-home requirements (including hardware, internet connectivity, and support)
